Course Description

Aims:

  • To be able to recognise when a child or young person may be at risk of /is experiencing child sexual abuse
  • To know the actions to take to safeguard and support the child or young person

Objectives:

To understand what child sexual abuse (CSA) is

  • To know the characteristics of perpetrators of CSA
  • To understand the prevalence of CSA in Bristol
  • To begin to understand the child’s perspective as a survivor of CSA
  • To be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of CSA, harmful sexual behaviour and child sexual exploitation and use the professional tools available to support this
  • To understand the referral pathway and how to use it when concerns about CSA have been identified
  • To know what local services are available to support survivors of CSA
  • To think about how to approach conversations with children and young people about CSA

Note: This course also includes content on CSE (Child Sexual Exploitation) and Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB)
